NaNoWriMo 2016 Winner!

NaNoWriMo 2016 Winner!

NaNo Winner

I did it! I wrote a little over 50,000 words in less than thirty days. Now I have a very sloppy draft of a novel, with a beginning, middle, end. There’s a semblance of a plot and characters I’ve fallen in love with.

My goal is to develop Mountain Brook Memories: 1960-1963 into a full-fledged novel by the beginning of 2018.

Fullness of Time

But first, I’ll finish editing and publishing In the Fullness of Time, the sequel to Hattie’s Place. I can’t wait for you to read it, as it deals with women and empowerment in the World War I era, as well as other issues that we are still struggling with in 2016.

I’ll tell you more about In the Fullness of Time in later blogs and will share the cover and some excerpts, as well as the publication date when that’s determined. I’m expecting the second edit back from my Kirkus editor in several weeks and will know more then.

NaNo Experience

I’ll also write more about my experience with National Novel Writing Month, which I have found to be extremely rewarding. You might also want to participate, if you’re

  • One who has always wanted to publish a novel
  • One who is sitting on an idea for a novel and hasn’t yet gotten anything down on paper
  • One who’s already published and wants to jump-start another novel.

A number of best selling books began as NaNoWriMo projects, including Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, which is one of my all time favorites.

But, for the remainder of the day, I’m abandoning all writing goals. It’s Cyber Monday and I plan to get most of my Christmas shopping done before I go to sleep tonight. The alternative of fighting the crowds at the mall is the perfect incentive.
